Syngenta and Groundwork BioAg Collaborate on Soil Carbon Innovation

In July 2026, Syngenta and Groundwork BioAg announced a strategic partnership to commercialize mycorrhiza-based biological products and soil carbon solutions for farmers. The collaboration combines Syngenta’s global market reach with Groundwork BioAg’s expertise in mycorrhizal technology, carbon program development, and digital tools. As a result, farmers will be able to gain access to solutions that improve crop performance, enhance soil health, and create an additional revenue stream through carbon credits.

Syngenta will market Groundwork BioAg’s mycorrhizal technology under its own label. The initial rollout will focus on corn, soybeans, and sunflowers. The offering will first target agricultural markets in Latin America and Europe. Similarly, Groundwork BioAg will handle manufacturing and supply, digital tooling, carbon program development, and carbon credit generation processes. This integrated approach aims to simplify participation in agricultural carbon programs while also delivering measurable agronomic benefits.

Farmers using the mycorrhiza-based products are expected to benefit from improved nutrient uptake, higher and more resilient crop yields, greater resistance to plant stress, enhanced soil health, and additional income through carbon credits. Consequently, the partnership seeks to deliver both agronomic performance and environmental value.

Overall, the Syngenta–Groundwork BioAg partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of biological crop inputs and soil carbon solutions. “The model we have built with Groundwork BioAg builds resilience, restores soil health, and accumulates long-term carbon stocks, while generating carbon credits that directly benefit farmers,” Laux mentioned. She added that the initiative aligns with Syngenta’s sustainability objective of helping farmers increase yields while reducing environmental impact.

Alon Werber, CEO of Groundwork BioAg, said the collaboration positions mycorrhizal fungi as both a valuable agronomic input and a significant tool for agricultural climate mitigation. Emilhano Lima, Global Head of Seedcare & Biologicals, emphasized that biological products are becoming an increasingly important part of modern agriculture.

“Nature-inspired solutions provide farmers with effective, reliable tools while also delivering concrete agronomic returns,” Lima added.
