Tesla has already activated its new, second-generation V4 Superchargers in China, marking a significant advancement in the brand's approach to electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. These new chargers, launched on June 30, 2025, are currently operational in major areas, including Shanghai, Chongqing, and the provinces of Gansu and Zhejiang. Tesla is also establishing inclusivity by opening these V4 Superchargers to cars of other manufacturers besides Tesla. This indicates that the company is aiming not only to have charging available everywhere in the largest electric car market worldwide but also to reach a wider audience in the country.

This step highlights the fact that Tesla is shifting its strategy to become a hub for EV charging rather than a brand-specific network. Previously owned exclusively by Tesla cars, the Supercharger is becoming more open to support the entire EV community. Another essential move as China sets challenging goals to drastically increase the EV share and retire existing fossil fuel-powered cars. This move by Tesla to accept non-Tesla EVs in its charging network may have an impact on other automakers and infrastructure developers, potentially enforcing a more interdependent and standardized charging network nationwide.

Tesla is expanding in China as the government pursues vigorous policies to transition to cleaner energy sources and reduce emissions. As China aims to have 40% of all new vehicles on the road electric by 2030, fast and reliable charging stations will be in high demand. The introduction of the V4 Superchargers by Tesla presents both a business opportunity and an investment in the country's infrastructure. Tesla also has the potential benefit of new revenue sources by extending its network to non-Tesla vehicles while simultaneously encouraging wider adoption of its charging technology.

As Tesla ramps up its China operations, collaboration with local governments, utility providers, and urban city planners will be important factors. The cooperation will help make the installation of Superchargers not only widespread but also largely concentrated in ways that are useful within the context of actual commuter traffic and long-distance travel corridors. Tesla is not the only company making such investments in China, as China has a global initiative to improve its energy system, particularly in solar power generation, energy storage, and AI-based grid systems to facilitate vehicle charging.
