Health Canada's Directorate of Natural and Non-prescription Health Products (NNHPD) has approved Nutriterra® Total Omega-3 for inclusion in dietary supplements, the first major event in sustainable omega-3 solutions. Nutriterra is a plant-based source of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids for people: DHA, EPA, and ALA. It is derived from Omega-3 canola, a proprietary crop developed by Nuseed, and eliminates dependency on marine fish stocks. Specifically, one hectare of Omega-3 Canola yields the equivalent DHA of 10,000 kilograms of wild-caught fish, thereby alleviating the bad public image regarding the effects of overfishing and depletion of marine ecosystems.

Nutriterra, a plant-based omega-3 supplement, is approved by the NNHPD for improving health markers. Nutriterra's long-chain fatty acids effectively enter blood lipids when taken as supplements for a few months in humans owned by NNHPD trials. For instance, a daily serving of 2000 mg Nutriterra improved the OmegaScore™ and Omega-3 Index sufficiently. Health Canada considers the conclusion of Nutriterra as an efficacious source of essential omega-3 fatty acids for healthy well-being. This is how it works by lowering triglycerides, targeting cognitive function, and alleviating inflammation.

Nutriterra

Nutriterra's Omega-3 Canola is the sustainable replacement for conventional marine sources like fish oil by the fact that wild fish stocks cannot satisfy present and future omega-3 needs. Produced on land through agriculture, it avoids overfishing; offers efficient production; and reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to fish-based alternatives. This innovative plant-based solution for environmental sustainability has a reliable supply chain and lessens reliance on marine ecosystem resources to promote climate resilience.

Regulatory Milestones and Global Reach

Following a series of global regulatory achievements, Nutriterra, the plant-based omega-3 supplement, has been registered in Canada. The company's product was approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) in the year 2020, received the U.S. FDA designation as a New Dietary Ingredient in 2021, and is now also approved in Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S. Nufarm is still pursuing new and further certifications for Nutriterra to add into its global reach. The approval makes Nutriterra the first player addressing nutrition and sustainability gaps for plant-based omega-3 innovation. A solution suitable for consumers who need to meet their health as well as sustainability objectives is facilitated by an alternative to traditional fish oil. Nufarm, a global powerhouse in plant-based solutions, has created new technologies to bring the potential of Omega-3 Canola to fruition, thus underlining the commitment to provide cutting-edge scalable solutions.

Health Canada has approved Nutriterra as the first plant-based source of long-chain omega-3, which stands as a landmark in plant nutrition. Nutriterra extends towards a future that is health-promoting and sustainable in traditional fish oils while being heart and brain health-promoting and marine eco-friendly. This innovation will change the theory behind omega-3 fats and their future sustainabilities generation after generation.
