Chery Launches Electric Pick-Ups with Rely Himla EV, Signaling Global Multi-Powertrain Ambitions
Chery Group has entered the electric pick-up market, introducing its Rely brand of all-electric Himla EV. This is one of the first moves in the overall change of the company to electrification and internationalization. The new electric pick-up is initially being positioned as a multi-market, multi-powertrain product and not as a niche or experimental product.
The launch of the EV variant, in addition to the traditional powertrains, is an indication that Chery does not consider pick-ups as a regional or a transition segment of its product strategy. The initial production version of the Himla EV is delivered in six different variants, from RMB 127,800 up to RMB 158,800, which makes it one of the most affordable electric pick-ups in its category nowadays.

The integration of competitive prices with the current electric architecture will help Chery to reduce the entry barrier to customers who might be thinking of acquiring an EV pick-up brand new. The Himla EV is constructed using the traditional body-on-frame chassis, purposefully maintaining the rough DNA associated with a pick-up truck. Instead of taking the car-like unibody design, Chery has kept to a layout that has been used in terms of longevity, towing, and off-road strength. This move highlights the fact that the brand will continue to focus on utility-first engineering, despite the shift to electric propulsion.
The Himla EV gives out a strong functional outlook that is meant to appeal to pick-up buyers across the world. Its ratio, level, and muscled position solidly place it under the midsize pick-up, which fits it with the already existing rivals in the new and already developed markets.
This new functionality does not reduce maneuverability or daily functionality, and the car can be used in any urban and rural setting. Battery choices of 66.54 kWh and 88 kWh provide a driving range of up to 510 km in the CLTC cycle, which makes it suitable for both long distances and hard work schedules. Furthermore, Chery is establishing Himla as a versatile global product that is strategically useful in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia market.
