Motorica has introduced the Omni Hand with optical myography (OMG) sensors. Omni Hand is the first bionic hand prosthesis, an assistive technology and medical cybernetics company with innovations globally. This breakthrough represents a paradigm shift in prosthetic control, enabling users to communicate with their devices in a much more natural and intuitive way than ever before.

Omni Hand

The Omni Hand uses optical sensors to detect small variations in light transmittance through muscles and tendons, unlike traditional prosthetics, which use surface electromyography (EMG) signals. The device then converts these minute time variations into accurate, smooth hand movements. Therefore, it is particularly useful for patients with reduced muscle activity due to electrical injury, frostbite, or traumatic amputation.

Motorica's creation also highlights the company's effort to combine the latest research with practical applications. This has led to the development of a prosthetic system that not only mimics complex muscle movements but also enables them. But also blends into the wearer's everyday life through collaboration among engineers, medical scientists, and rehabilitation specialists. The design philosophy of the Omni Hand focuses on functionality and comfort, enabling the technology to be used reliably throughout the day without straining or fatiguing.

The first-generation Omni Hand can also be used to spur more innovation in the prosthetics and rehabilitation markets. Having established a new standard of easy-to-use control and accuracy, the device is expected to shape the future of the prosthetic system. This prompts other companies to consider the field of optical sensing and the adaptive controls driven by AI. Furthermore, the strategy can be applied not only to hand prosthetics but also to other assistive technologies, including exoskeletons and upper-limb rehabilitation equipment, offering a bionic solution that is more natural, responsive, and patient-friendly.

Executive’s Statement

Andrei Davidiuk, CEO of Motorica

“Omni Hand represents a new level of human-technology interaction. It doesn’t just respond to movement; it understands the user’s intent. This is a step toward truly natural control of bionic prosthetics and reflects Motorica’s commitment to improving quality of life for patients through innovative technology.”
