Clean Harbors Expands Wastewater Treatment Operations

Clean Harbors recently announced that it has acquired Terra Nova Solutions in a cash deal valued at USD 225 million. Through this acquisition, Clean Harbors is aiming to strengthen its industrial and environmental service operations, especially in hazardous waste management and wastewater treatment activities, as per the published report. Terra Nova Solutions majorly operates across the Carolinas region and has formed its business around handling industrial waste, vacuum services, wastewater processing, tank cleaning, and other environmental support services for industrial customers. 

Moreover, Terra Nova Solutions operates five facilities that support waste treatment and wastewater management operations. Also, these facilities help industries manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials safely while supporting wastewater treatment activities on a large scale. The company also manages large wastewater processing volumes every year, along with significant solidification capacity for industrial waste materials.

According to a new report published by Towards Chemicals And Materials Analytics and Consulting, the hazardous wastewater treatment market size was valued at USD 22.10 billion in 2025, is estimated to reach USD 23.46 billion in 2026, and is projected to reach USD 40.14 billion by 2035, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.15% over the forecast period from 2026 to 2035. In terms of volume, the hazardous wastewater treatment market is projected to grow from 41.25 billion cubic meters in 2025 to 68.42 billion cubic meters by 2035. growing at a CAGR of 5.19% from 2026 to 2035 due to the shift towards a cleaner environment and reduction of carbon emissions.

Furthermore, the acquisition adds a large fleet of specialized trucks and tankers to Clean Harbors’ existing transportation operations. The company also mentioned that more than 100 Terra Nova employees are expected to become part of the Clean Harbors organization.
