Naruvi hospitals entered into collaborations with the Hindu for 'GERD-free Living: From Burn to Balance’ webinar, as part of the ‘Healthy India Happy India Initiatives.’ On the final episode of the 15-part webinar series, doctors discussed the requirement of early diagnosis and simple lifestyle changes for preventing the growing complications of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). In this discussion, doctors have recommended that people avoid smoking & alcohol consumption, spicy & fatty foods, and late-night meals. Doctors also have warned people about an inactive lifestyle, stress, and weight management needs.
Several gastroenterologists, including E. Rabindranath and Jacob Raja A.S., consultants at Naruvi Hospitals, Vellore, and A.C. Arun, clinical lead of Gastroenterology at Lily Mission Hospital, Maduri, expressed their concerns about GERD during the webinar. According to Dr. Jacob, India has reported fewer cases of GERD compared to Europe, North America, and some parts of Asia. However, the growing unhealthy lifestyle and eating habits are contributing to this prevalence in India’s young adult population.

He explained that “the gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs due to gastroesophageal reflux (GER) happens various times in a week, that impacts sleep, work, and quality of life. The condition causes symptoms like continuous heartburn, chest pain, and swallowing trouble.”
Dr Rabindranath spoke about diagnosis, lifestyle changes, and management of GERD

Dr Arun stated the role of Endoscopy in identifying complications and anatomical damages that occur due to gastroesophageal reflux
He spoke about treatments for GERD, including minor surgeries, medication, and endoscopic procedures to reduce the disease progression. He warned that if the gastroesophageal reflux disease is left untreated, it can cause esophageal ulcer and can lead to make swallowing food, lead to vomiting, and can cause pre-cancerous conditions.
