India Accelerates AI-Driven Healthcare Transformation with the Launch of SAHI and BODH Platforms
India has taken a major step toward building a secure and regulated artificial intelligence (AI) healthcare ecosystem with the launch of two national initiatives. They are designed to guide responsible AI deployment across the country’s medical infrastructure. India has embarked on a journey towards digitally driven healthcare innovation with the recent release of the Strategy for AI in Healthcare in India (SAHI) by the Union Government's Health Ministry.

This marks a commitment to leveraging technology to enhance healthcare outcomes. The Union Government's Health Ministry has just published the SAHI and Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI (BODH) to support an India that is committed to using technology to improve healthcare results. India is taking a step towards establishing itself as a global leader in healthcare technology, AI-driven diagnostics, and digital public health solutions.
SAHI and BODH Create Structured Framework for Responsible AI Deployment
BODH is a new platform that was launched joint with IIT Kanpur, which acts as a reference point and validation platform for health-related AI solutions. The platform can be set up to test and evaluate AI tools in a controlled environment. This allows for the testing of deployment across hospitals or public healthcare systems before being rolled out at scale.
Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission also has a pivotal role in empowering healthcare innovators with its Sandbox platform. The platform enables the linkage of healthcare applets, screening systems with AI, and digital health services at the national level before going live. The framework provides for carefully checked and tested AI systems to be used in diagnostics, imaging, monitoring, or predictive healthcare before entering the market.
According to Precedence Research, the global AI in healthcare governance and safety market size was calculated at USD 2.40 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 2.96 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 19.65 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 23.40% from 2026 to 2035. The market growth is attributed to increasing adoption of AI-powered governance platforms for improving patient safety, regulatory compliance, operational transparency, and real-time healthcare risk management.
India Positions Itself as a Global Hub for Ethical Health AI Innovation
India’s healthcare system presents enormous opportunities for AI adoption due to its scale, rising digital infrastructure, and increasing healthcare demands. AI's potential in healthcare is vast in India, given the numerous opportunities it offers, especially in the face of a rapidly expanding digital society and the rising demands for healthcare services. Furthermore, with the commencement of SAHI and BODH, it is a clear indication that the government is willing to proactively take action to tackle these concerns and promote responsible innovation.
