Indonesia is set to launch an AI Application Cooperation Center, aimed at advancing artificial intelligence across key sectors, including education, healthcare, and agriculture. A memorandum of understanding between Indosat, the Indonesia Technology Alliance, and Tsinghua University Wuxi Research Institute of Applied Technologies in China is the source of this initiative. Deputy Ambassador of the Indonesian Embassy to China, Parulian George Andreas Silalahi, witnessed the formalization of the agreement at Tsinghua University, underscoring the two countries' strong commitment to technological cooperation.
The AI Application Cooperation Centre will unite Tsinghua University’s research expertise, ITA’s development focus, and Indosat’s digital infrastructure to drive practical AI applications in Indonesia. The center aims to design solutions tailored to local needs, particularly in sectors vital to Indonesia’s long-term social and economic growth, including food security and digital inclusion for a broader population segment.
This initiative aligns with Indonesia’s “Golden Indonesia 2045” vision, which aspires to achieve developed nation status by its centennial, as part of Indonesia's contributions to global innovation. AI is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing productivity, improving public services, and driving technological advancements both domestically and internationally.
Additionally, the MoU lays the groundwork for possible government-level cooperation between China and Indonesia, specifically between the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs of Indonesia and China's National Development and Reform Commission. It is anticipated that this partnership will promote AI development and strengthen digital ties between the two nations, opening doors for innovation and knowledge exchange.
The AI Application Cooperation Centre is expected to become operational in early 2025, focusing on practical AI solutions and education to ensure local talent is equipped to thrive in Indonesia’s digital transition. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Indonesia’s journey to integrate advanced AI technologies into its key sectors, promising a future of smart, inclusive, and sustainable development.
