The introduction of the innovative technologies of the MG Intelligent Mobility (IM) brand has become the culmination of many years of research by MG designers. To a greater extent, it has opened the doors to the luxury electric vehicle (EV) segment worldwide with the introduction of two flagship models: the MG IM5 sedan and the MG IM6 SUV. Introduced in Sydney, the cars comprise a significant step forward in the development of the automaker as it tries to challenge Tesla and come into direct competition with top-level EV offerings by such companies as BYD and BMW. Starting at USD 60,990, with top-of-the-range powertrains capable of delivering up to 572 kW, MG is aiming at tech enthusiasts and performance-minded consumers who want luxury features, range, and design, but at a lower price than the competition.

MG Launches IM5

The MG IM6 is a larger, imposing SUV model, and both are designed to be based on a new design vocabulary that combines minimalism with the most advanced technical elements. Having WLTP ranges that go over 650km, older-generation-looking high-end all-wheel-drive systems, combined with less than 3-second 0-60 times. The IM is a testament to how ambitious MG can be as it seeks to move beyond its origins in value-oriented electric vehicles to a truly luxury-oriented global player in the electric market. The cars have various options in terms of trims, including Premium, Platinum, and Performance, and with battery ranges of 75 kWh and 100 kWh to satisfy many types of drivers as well as budgets.

A trend that MG has fronted is incorporating high-style design and intelligent functionality on the IM5 and IM6. An internal bigness is the massive 26.3-inch panoramic digital dash, which flows around the entire front of the cabin in both models, and the central control touch interface with a 10.5-inch screen to modify core settings. The future innovations will be based on the Intelligent Mobility brand of the company, such as smart city adoption, autonomous driving, and other systems, including vehicle-to-grid energy systems. Competing with Tesla is not just the strategy of MG, as the company wants to disrupt the image of premium electric mobility by making it more accessible, intelligent, and performance-oriented.
