Medical Intelligent Recognition and Assistance for Complex Guidance and Localisation Enhancement in Robotics & Laparoscopic Surgery, it focuses on creating a secure and interoperable data space for robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Clinical information can be processed intelligently to improve surgical outcomes, which supports medical professionals and foster innovation in digital health across Europe

Marcos Fernández, coordinator of MIRACLE, highlighted the project’s efforts to promote the implementation of high-value sector-specific data spaces, specifically in the areas of digital health and surgical intelligence.

According to Towards Healthcare, the Europe surgical display market is projected to experience significant growth, with estimates suggesting the market size will increase from USD 286.37 million in 2026 to approximately USD 567.7 million by 2035, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.9% from 2026 to 2035. Growth is driven by the primarily driven by the rising adoption of minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgeries, the need for enhanced imaging and real-time precision. With technological advancement and AI helps to enhance patient safety and optimise surgical workflows through practical use cases, such as real-time anatomical recognition, predictive alerts during robotic procedures, and integration with systems that include robotic arms and enable monitoring of the operation.

Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service supported the University of Valencia through the Next Generation EU programme to promote sectoral data spaces in strategic areas such as health and digital sovereignty.

Overview of MIRACLE, SIRA

MIRACLE aims to establish a secure, AI-driven data space to enhance real-time anatomical recognition and predictive alerts in robotic surgery, whereas SIRA technologies are enhancing the surgical display market through two distinct applications.

While MIRACLE focuses on AI-driven data spaces for surgical intelligence, SIRA provides advanced and holographic visualization for the rapidly growing Europe surgical display market. Challenges to high financial costs with significant investments are needed for robotic systems and high-definition displays, which cause budget constraints in public healthcare, along with ongoing maintenance and training expenses.

A recent report by Towards Healthcare highlights that the Europe surgical display market is witnessing growth due to the shift toward smart operating rooms, which is opening opportunities for monitors that support AI-driven imaging and robotic platforms, such as the Versius and da Vinci systems, requires ultra-high-definition visualization and offer manufacturers an opportunity to supply healthcare systems working to modernize operating theaters.
