By storming the world with its unprecedented AI model, which can understand natural human language and offer highly precise answers to a spectrum of questions, popularly known as ChatGPT, Open AI, a leading AI tech firm, has made a significant impact. The same firm is expected to introduce another notable product, the Open AI web browser, to compete with the highly established Google Chrome, according to sources. The aim behind the development of this browser is to integrate artificial intelligence, further giving OpenAI access to user data.
Chrome plays a crucial role in Alphabet's Ad operations, which contribute nearly 75% of the company's total revenue. This process is achieved by supplying user data, which enhances ad targeting and the overall business profit. If ChatGPT's 500 million users were to adopt OpenAI’s browser, it could create a challenging situation for Google's revenue stream, sparking fierce competition between the two tech giants.
In May, OpenAI announced it would enter the hardware domain, for which it is ready to pay USD 6.5 billion to purchase io. io is an AI device startup founded by former design chief Jony Ive, who was previously the design chief of Apple, a leading tech company. He was once a creative force behind the design of the iPhone and Mac. He is going to support OpenAI in building AI-centric hardware.
Sam Altman has shared his visions and perceptions of AI, and how the world needs to perceive it, as expressed in his own words. He says, "What it means to use technology can change profoundly. I hope we can bring some of the delight, wonder, and creative spirit that I first felt using an Apple Computer 30 years ago. AI is an incredible technology, but great tools require work at the intersection of technology, design, and understanding people and the world. "No one can do this like Jony and his team; the amount of care they put into every aspect of the process is extraordinary.”
Sam Altman and Ive mentioned, “We’re thrilled to share that the io Products, Inc. team has officially merged with OpenAI. Jony Ive and Love From remain independent and have assumed deep design and creative responsibilities across OpenAI,”
Considering this deal as an extraordinary moment, the letter further said, “Computers are now seeing, thinking and understanding. Despite this unprecedented capability, our experience remains shaped by traditional products and interfaces.”
