Verida, the world's first detector-based spectral CT system, has been introduced by Royal Philips. This is the first fully integrated, end-to-end artificial intelligence-based system in modern medical imaging. Verida has the potential to make one of the most significant technological advances in the field. Additionally, with incremental upgrades, this launch marks a structural change in the acquisition, processing, and interpretation of CT data that radiology departments will use over the next 10 years.

CT System

Philips has been considered a pioneer in the field of detector-based spectral CT. They allow clinicians to distinguish tissues based on how they react to different X-ray energy levels. In past years, spectral imaging has come with trade-offs, such as increased scan times, reduced image quality, or greater complexity.

Verida eliminates such tradeoffs by integrating AI into the imaging chain, encompassing acquisition and reconstruction. This ensures superior spectral quality and faster, more consistent images across a variety of patients. One of the main advances in Verida is the AI-based reconstruction engine, which generates sharp spectral images with very low noise. Using its third-generation Nano-panel Precise dual-layer detector, optimized to leverage machine learning algorithms.

The launch of Verida will see Philips at the forefront of the development of next-generation imaging diagnostics. Nowadays, healthcare is progressing towards precision medicine and AI-assisted decision-making. Verida is becoming a sign of a redefinition of how radiology departments will work, innovate, and provide care at scale. This technology fulfils the practical requirements of the present with its combination of performance, efficiency, and sustainability. Additionally, Verida is an attractive, future-proof option for health systems seeking to modernize their CT infrastructure by balancing spectral sophistication with operational simplicity.

Executive Statement

Dan Xu, Business Leader, CT at Philips (CEO-equivalent of CT Division)

“By merging our proven spectral CT foundation with advanced AI, Verida establishes an entirely new benchmark in image quality, workflow speed, and clinical certainty. We designed this system to help clinicians detect disease earlier, deliver more confident diagnoses, and streamline care pathways, all from a single, highly efficient scan. Verida represents the next chapter in Philips’ commitment to accessible, intelligent, and high-performance imaging.”
