In one of the first of its kind, marking the beginning of a new age in energy technology, global energy powerhouse SLB has announced Telatm. This highly smart, agentic Artificial Intelligence assistant is set to change the very face of the upstream energy industry, unlike traditional AI systems that merely automate repetitive processes.
The intelligence structure of Tela is capable of seeing, planning, acting, and learning on its own, transforming workflows, increasing organisational efficiency, and speeding up innovation in exploration and production processes. As part of SLB's wide range of digital applications, Tela operates through a conversational interface, combining human-level knowledge with artificial intelligence to make decisions at scale.

Tela is using agentic AI, a pioneering theory that enables digital agents to actively analyse complex data, make informed judgments, and take action, thereby improving performance. Tela is built on the Lumitm data and AI platform from SLB, combining LLMs with specialised domain foundation models (DFMs) fine-tuned for the energy industry. This unification ensures that the AI assistant is aware of geoscientific subtleties and operational objectives. The field data helps companies optimise the entire well-log analysis process, improving drilling efficiency and equipment maintenance.
By introducing Tela, SLB is taking a step toward the digitalisation of the energy sector, where AI no longer serves as a support tool in the background of the operational canvas. The intersection of human intelligence and agentic AI offers new ways of working together, with engineers, data scientists, and field operators able to conduct their work with greater clarity, faster, and proactively. In the future, Tela should accelerate energy innovation and efficiency at a rate never seen before.
Rakesh Jaggi, President, Digital and Integration, SLB:
“Technology like Tela marks a paradigm shift in how AI supports the energy industry, from subsurface to operations. Today, the industry faces a dual challenge: a leaner workforce and increased technical complexity, and Tela can address both. Tela doesn’t just automate tasks; it can understand goals, make decisions, and take action. It’s the convergence of 100 years of domain science and cutting-edge digital technology, amplifying human ingenuity and redefining how work gets done.”
