Tata Chemicals Plans ₹910 Crore Investment to Boost Soda Ash and Silica Production in India
Tata Chemicals Gears Up for Growth
Tata Chemicals announced a major plan to spend â¹910 crore to increase the production of soda ash and silica in India. Also, the company’s board approved this investment to expand the capacity of two of its key factories. This move shows that Tata Chemicals is looking to grow and meet the rising demand for these important industrial materials.
At the Mithapur plant in Gujarat, the company is likely to invest around â¹135 crore to increase the production of dense soda ash. Soda ash is widely used in products like glass, soaps, detergents, and many other everyday items. Moreover, the expansion is expected to add 350,000 tonnes of annual soda ash production, and the project is planned to be completed in about two years. This will allow the company to better serve its customers in India and abroad.
According to Towards Chem&Materials, the specialty silica market size accounted for USD 10.25 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 11.02 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 21.22 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 7.55% from 2026 to 2035, due to the increasing demand for durability and fuel efficiency in the automotive sector.
Also, the larger portion of the investment, about â¹775 crore, will be directed to the Cuddalore plant in Tamil Nadu, which produces precipitated silica. Moreover, silica is an important material used in products like tires, rubber, cosmetics, and other industrial applications. The expansion will increase production by 50,000 tonnes per year, and it is expected to be finished in about 27 months.
Moreover, both factories are operating near full capacity. By expanding them, Tata Chemicals aims to meet growing demand and strengthen its position in the chemical industry. The investment will be funded through the company’s own resources, along with possible additional financing.
