Approval Supports Expansion of Surgical Visualization Technology

ZEISS

n February 2026, ZEISS Medical Technology announced that China’s National Medical Products Administration approved its advanced ophthalmic surgical microscopes, the ARTEVO 750 and ARTEVO 850. The company can now launch its cutting-edge surgical visualization systems in the Chinese healthcare market thanks to approval. The approval is significant because ophthalmic surgeries like cataract, retinal, and glaucoma procedures are becoming increasingly popular in China. Surgeons and hospitals in China will be able to utilize ZEISS's cutting-edge visualization systems, which are intended to enhance surgical accuracy, workflow efficiency, and patient safety during microsurgical procedures, thanks to this regulatory clearance.

Advanced Visualization Systems Improve Surgical Precision

For eye surgeries involving the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, the ARTEVO 750 and ARTEVO 850 microscopes are intended to offer both optical and digital visualization. Surgeons can see tissue structures more clearly during surgery thanks to these systems' advanced imaging features, which include RGB illumination, enhanced image resolution, and digital visualization technologies. Surgeons can perform delicate procedures more accurately and safely thanks to the enhanced visualization. These microscopes are especially helpful for corneal transplantation, vitreoretinal surgery, cataract surgery, and glaucoma surgery.

Integration With Digital Surgical Workflow

The ability of these surgical microscopes to integrate with digital surgical workflows and ophthalmic surgical platforms is one of their main advantages. Surgeons can combine imaging, surgical planning documentation, and visualization into a single workflow thanks to the system's compatibility with ZEISS cataract and retinal workflow technologies. This integration helps surgeons make better decisions during procedures and increases surgical efficiency. Additionally, the digital visualization features, including 3D visualization in a more sophisticated model, help to improve operating room ergonomics and lessen surgeon fatigue.

According to Precedence Research, the surgical microscopy camera market size was valued at USD 1,018.96 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach approximately USD 2,841.55 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 10.80% during the forecast period. The market growth is due to an increasing number of minimally invasive surgeries and the rising demand for high-resolution imaging in surgical procedures.

Strengthening ZEISS Presence in the Chinese Market

ZEISS's plan to increase its market share in the Asia Pacific ophthalmology market, particularly in China, is also reflected in this approval. By offering cutting-edge surgical technologies that enhance treatment results and surgical efficiency, the company seeks to assist ophthalmologists. Advanced surgical microscopes are anticipated to be crucial in enhancing surgical results and patient care as the number of eye conditions and ophthalmic surgeries rises due to aging populations and increased healthcare spending. This advancement will help hospitals and eye care facilities throughout China expand their use of surgical microscopy and ophthalmic imaging technologies.
