The renowned CEO of OpenAI, Mr. Sam Altman, is on a global tour of East Asia and the Middle East to find partners and secure significant funds to expand the firm's presence in these regions through high computing infrastructure. Altman has held several meetings in Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea with leading suppliers like TSMC, Samsung Electronics, Foxconn, and SK Hynix. Their target behind these series of meetings is to achieve maximum Artificial Intelligence chip production while ensuring that OpenAI receives priority from these companies to order essential components for manufacturing. As demand for AI chips has increased, OpenAI is looking to capitalize on this situation by offering the maximum number of chips that support AI functions.
Earlier this week, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix signed a letter of intent to supply memory chips for OpenAI's data center. This significant and ambitious project will significantly expand the company’s computing capacity on a large scale. Moreover, Sam Altman also plans to visit the UAE to explore potential opportunities and interest investors. They intend to raise substantial funding for long-term research infrastructure by OpenAI.
According to sources, OpenAI has informed its investors and business partners that the company expects to spend nearly USD 16 billion on leasing computing servers by the end of 2025. The investment is expected to reach USD 400 billion in 2029 due to the increasing operating scale and data processing demands for artificial intelligence.
