Aluminum Industry Introduces Recycling Alliance To Meet PPWR Goals

The European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) and Flexible Packaging Europe (FPE) have established a strategic partnership dedicated to enhancing the circularity of small-format aluminium packaging, including confectionery foils, dairy wraps, and coffee capsules. This initiative aims to modernise European collection and sorting infrastructures.

Waste Management Initiatives

According to the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA), small-format aluminum packaging exhibits lagging recycling rates, despite the availability of advanced sorting technologies capable of separating these items. While overall aluminum recovery remains high, smaller items.such as coffee capsules, foils, and lids are frequently omitted from efficient waste streams.
Confirmed participants in the initiative include Actega, Al Invest, Aluminium Féron, Alupak, Amcor, Bel Group, Constantia Flexibles, Datwyler, Delica, Formika, JDE Peet’s, Laminazione Sottile, Lindt, Nestlé Nespresso, Speira, and Symetal.

According to Towards Chemicals And Materials Analytics and Consulting, the metal recycling market size accounted for USD 412.55 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 441.22 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 807.76 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 6.95% from 2026 to 2035 as demand for metals is growing coupled  with the focus on the conservation of natural resources.

Sustainability and Environmental Regulations Accelerate the Metal Recycling Market

  • Increasing pressure to accomplish net-zero targets boosts the use of recycled metal to minimize carbon footprints.
  • Ongoing industrialization and urbanization in the emerging region are creating substantial demand for recycled materials in construction and automotive.
  • Enhanced recycling and separation processes improve the purity of recycled metals, which makes them more attractive for high-grade industrial applications.
  • Surged governmental emphasis on adopting circular economy practices, supporting the reuse of resources rather than disposal, stimulates market expansion.
