Arduino has introduced the Matter Discovery Bundle, a new development kit designed to make developing and testing smart home devices easier for developers and learners. The kit supports the rapidly growing Matter smart homes standard, simplifying the process of creating devices.

The new bundle is designed for learning and prototyping Matter-enabled smart home devices. Built around the nano Matter board, which works alongside additional expansion hardware, sensor modules and structured learning resources, which helps developers to build and test Matter-over-Thread applications, the key communication technologies used in modern smart home ecosystems.
Arduino has introduced the kit following the recent introduction of other development platforms, including the Arduino Nesso N1 IoT development kit and Arduino UNO Q development platform, focused on expanding the organization for connected devices development.

Arduino Matter Discovery Bundle Simplifies IoT Development

The kit is based around the Nano Matter board, a Nano Connector Carrier that supports Qwiic expansion, enabling solderless connections with compatible sensors and modules. The kit is also equipped with multiple Modulino sensor and actuator nodes, such as Latch Relay, Distance and Thermo nodes for developing and testing Matter-enabled projects.

Arduino has included a seven-module curriculum that guides users through the process of building and testing Matter-based applications to support learning and development. It is available to guide developers from the initial setup phase to Matter certification, making the kit suitable for both new learners and experienced developers exploring the standard.

On the software side, the kit runs the Matter-over-Thread stack, enabling it to communicate with existing smart home hubs through the Arduino Matter library. Arduino has also unveiled specialized learning modules hosted on the Arduino Cloud platform, with a confirmed price at the company’s store available from Feb 25.

The system relies on Thread networking, therefore requires a Matter-over-Thread border router like an Apple TV 4K, HomePod or specialized Hub, to function fully within a smart home network. Without a border router, a buyer will not be able to access the smart features of the bundle.

The Arduino Matter Discovery Bundle is now available on Arduino’s store at a price of $61.04, offering developers a cost-efficient entry point into the rapidly evolving smart home and IoT ecosystem.
