"Smile For Life" allowed senior citizens to gain significant oral health awareness, encouraging healthier ageing via community outreach.

Reinforcing its commitment to community medical care beyond conferences and healthcare practice, the Bharat Dental Show Women’s Driven Congress effectively conducted its flagship outreach initiative, "Smile For Life", at Parijatha Care Centre, CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai.

The free dental awareness program was particularly intended for senior citizens, bringing preventive oral medical care education directly to residents aged 65 years and more. The initiative reflects the Bharat Dental Show's idea of increasing dental education in the community while highlighting the vital connection between oral health and overall well-being.

The session was led by Dr. Shefali Bhiwapurkar, Community Outreach Coordinator, under the guidance of Dr. Manali Mehta, Organizing Secretary, along with Dr. Aarohi. The team interacted with residents in the two male and two female wards, making an engaging and supportive environment focused on enhancing quality of life via advanced oral health awareness.

The awareness session covered important topics crucial for healthy elderly, including:

  • The link between oral health and systemic health
  • Precise denture care and maintenance
  • Regular oral hygiene services
  • Nourishment for healthy teeth and gums
  • The significance of regular dental check-ups

Beyond the informative session, the initiative focuses on meaningful conversations with residents, many of whom shared concerns related to chewing challenges, dry mouth, and denture uneasiness. Caregivers also significantly participated, looking for practical guidance on supporting the oral health of aging residents.

The program highlighted that efficient dental care is not restricted to management; it begins with education, empathy, and attention. Through Smile for Life, the organizers created a platform where seniors felt heard, knowledgeable, and encouraged to prioritize their oral health.

The establishing team expressed sincere appreciation to the organization of Parijatha Care Centre, particularly Dr. Jairaj, Dr. Seethalakshmi Jairaj, and the devoted caregivers, nurses, and support staff for their warm hospitality and wholehearted collaboration in making the outreach program a success. Particular appreciation was also extended to dentist channel online for supporting and strengthening this meaningful community initiative.

According to Towards Healthcare, the dental gauze market is projected to experience significant growth, with estimates suggesting the market size will increase from USD 2.27 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 3.65 billion by 2035.Growth is expected at a steady CAGR of 5.44% in between 2026 to 2035. A gauze sponge keeps the functioning field clean and dry to prevent challenges of infection or discomfort. Absorbent gauze keeps patients from swallowing blood, saliva, and debris. There are two types of gauze: woven and non-woven gauze sponges for that purpose. Non-woven gauze is a bit more expensive, but it absorbs fluids more proficiently due to its denser and significantly uniform matrix of fibers. This means consumers use fewer gauze sponges during a procedure. Woven gauze is an advanced choice for rapid post-extraction hemostasis. But its coarser texture and propensity for linting make it less appropriate for long-term use. Non-woven gauze provides advanced absorbency and patient comfort for challenging oral operations. Dental gauze is a dedicated absorbent material applied in dental practices to manage bleeding, absorb fluids, and offer protection to operational sites. Its significant purpose is to encourage healing and maintain a clean environment before and after dental events.

Leadership Perspectives

Dr. Manali Mehta, Organizing Secretary, Bharat Dental Show, said:

"As women dentists, our responsibility extends beyond the dental chair. Through Smile For Life, we took precision and purpose into the community because preventive care for our seniors is preventive care for our society."

Dr. Shefali Bhiwapurkar, Community Outreach Coordinator, added:

"Smile For Life was about more than teeth. It was about listening. Many seniors have never had anyone explain why their gums bleed or why their dentures cause discomfort. Even one hour of education can significantly improve their quality of life."

Through initiatives like "Smile For Life," the Bharat Dental Show women’s-driven congress continues to champion community appointments, preventive dentistry, and healthy ageing, reinforcing the belief that every smile deserves care at each stage of life.

A recent report by Towards Healthcare highlights growth in the dental gauze market. The gauze not only supports clot formation, but also defends the area from food particles or the patient's tongue while the initial healing starts. It’s an easy device that supports the body’s natural recovery process. The significant benefits of dental gauze include its high absorbency, sterile packaging, and availability in different sizes and thicknesses, creating it versatile for different dental uses. It enhances patient comfort and aids in rapid recovery by effectively controlling bleeding and avoiding infection. Furthermore, the convenience of its applications contributes to effective workflow in dental hospitals.
