In March 2026, WEGO Medical announced that it would participate in the 12th International Blood Transfusion Congress, an event organized by the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion(AfSBT). The company has highlighted this opportunity to present its expanding technology portfolio in the blood bank sector. This event is a gathering of transfusion specialists, laboratory leaders, and public health agencies from across Africa and its global partner regions.

Blood Bank Technology

The company is focusing on presenting a collection of solutions that provide increased reliability in the operations of a blood bank or a transfusion unit in hospitals. This is a strong indicator of an infrastructure-focused business strategy to provide enhanced efficiency in transfusion operations.

Focus on Blood Collection and Processing Systems

One of the main attractions of the exhibition will be the presentation of WEGO’s multi-configuration blood bag systems, which are designed for the separation of components and efficient collection processes. These include single, double, triple and quadruple bag configurations, which are useful for the collection of whole blood and subsequent separation into plasma and red blood cells. These systems are designed for sterile collection, storage and centrifugation-based processing, which are widely used in regional blood centers. WEGO will also be presenting leukocyte reduction filtration technology, which helps in the production of leukocyte-reduced blood products. This technology plays an important role in improving the safety of blood products and meeting hospital quality requirements.

The global blood group typing market size was calculated at USD 2.42 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 2.63 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 5.52 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 8.60% from 2026 to 2035 as the demand grows for safe transfusion services, donor screening, maternal care, trauma management and surgical preparedness.

Consumables Supporting Transfusion Workflows

The company also intends to emphasize diagnostic and transfusion consumables supporting clinical and lab procedures. These consumables include blood collection tubes, transfusion sets and blood gas sampling devices, which are generally part of routine hospital workflows. WEGO Medical stressed on its commitment to supporting essential transfusion infrastructure in emerging healthcare systems. The AfSBT platform provides access to national blood services, regional procurement organizations, and clinical labs seeking scalable and standardized solutions.

A recent report by Precedence Research highlights that the blood group typing market is benefiting from automated medical platforms, genotyping, digitalization of laboratories and enhanced infrastructure in blood banks.
