Impact on the Automotive Industry

According to Precedence Research, the launch of BMW i5 LWB in India represents the expansion of the electric car portfolio of the German Automaker in the country. This will increase the fragmentation in the national electric car market as automobile companies from various countries are launching their models. Chinese and Indian electric cars in the same segment come at a lower price point, but German cars have higher brand value. The M package is also very popular in the country, originally due to its internal combustion engine-based performance cars. BMW has reported that it will further electrify its lineup in the future.

Impact on the Electric Vehicle Market

The global electric vehicle market size was estimated at USD 988.70 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 1,097.46 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 2,763.17 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 10.82% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the introduction of the BMW i5 LWB in India will bring German engineering prowess to the country in terms of propulsion systems, cabin features, exterior design, and safety technologies. Car buyers who prefer electric cars will have more options, and the car has been locally assembled and customized for seamless drivability in India. This will also boost the servicing and spare parts ecosystem, which does lag behind compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. BMW also brings its excellent driver engagement, for which it is renowned, in almost all the cars in its lineup.

Impact on the Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station Market

The global electric vehicle (EV) charging station market size was USD 73.92 billion in 2026 and is expected to grow from USD 73.92 billion in 2026 to nearly USD 548.05 billion by 2035, registering a robust CAGR of 25.32% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the launch of the BMW i5 LWB will boost the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the country. More and more companies are launching their electric cars at competitive prices, resulting in their growing shares in terms of ownership. Recent geopolitical conflicts have disrupted global oceanic crude oil logistics, resulting in a significant rise in the price of petrol and diesel. This has made electric vehicles even more lucrative, as it offers much lower cost per kilometer driven. The increased ownership will also boost public and private initiatives to expand charging infrastructure across the country.
