The latest update made to the ChatGPT model through a study mode, which offers step-by-step learning methods rather than rapid answers, creates a curious environment while interacting with ChatGPT and avoids ready-made answers, a strategy that many scholars and thinkers have targeted AI models for. This study mode is available in 11 Indian languages along with multimodal support by offering images, voice, and text to make AI learning easy and accessible for learners of all backgrounds. Study mode is free, and it is mobile-friendly, designed to be accessible to every student from any part of the country, whether urban or rural, to offer them useful insights and guidance. 

Robbie Torney, senior director of AI programs, said, “Instead of doing the work for them, study mode encourages students to think critically about their learning. Features like these are a positive step toward effective Artificial Intelligence use for learning. "Even in the AI era, the best learning still happens when students are excited about and actively engaged with the lesson material.” 

How is the Study Mode Operating?

A major question raised about the authenticity and working pattern of the study mode is how this study mode works and on what basis it will answer every problem that learners would ask. In answering this, OpenAI claimed that the study mode is operated by its custom system instructions.

This is built with the help of teachers, scientists, and pedagogy experts to support deeper learning and avoid misconceptions. Study mode provides interactive prompts and encompasses deeper questions, mind-bending possibilities, hints, and self-assessment prompts to keep curiosity as a priority while learning instead of ready-made answers. It offers answers at the right level, tailored to the questioner's level of understanding. It avoids the overstuffing of information based on their previous chats, skill sets, and areas of interest for precise learning.

When asked about the ethical usage of study mode and the potential threat to its misuse by anyone and what kinds of systems have been developed to avoid this during exams and assessments, Mr. Belesky ensures by stating their preventive system, which is implemented by OpenAI, with robust safety measures that will prevent the generation of harmful content, as this feature has thoroughly undergone evaluations for safety like any other AI models that OpenAI released, underscores their ethical responsibility before launching such AI models.
