Medinco Health Launches CLOTBuster Foot Pump to Combat Travel-Related Blood Clot Risks

Medinco Health has announced the official release of the CLOTBuster In-Flight Passenger Foot Pump, an innovative medical device designed to help prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in long-distance airline passengers. It is an innovative product and the first device developed specifically to mitigate the risks of immobility in airline travelers. Being a non-invasive, simple, and efficient alternative to compression stockings, CLOTBuster(r) is a solution to one of the biggest but least recognized health risks of air travel globally.

The product is based on years of medical knowledge about how clotting in the lower limbs occurs during prolonged immobility. CLOTBuster(r) is engineered to operate in the body in cooperation with its natural physiology. Unlike traditional methods of restricting or compressing the legs, CLOTBuster(r) stimulates the calf muscle pump. This essential circulatory process helps the blood move out of the legs back to the heart. The device recreates the action of walking and prevents the harmful pooling of blood in the deep veins of the legs by using a cushioned, lightweight design that promotes ankle movement. By doing so, it eliminates the risk of clotting directly when traveling for a prolonged period.

The introduction of CLOTBuster(r) is timely because there has never been a stronger awareness of DVT and venous thromboembolism (VTE). The World Health Organization (WHO) conducted a four-year epidemiological study on the health effects of long-haul travel, following nearly 50 years of mass air travel. The research also found that the longer the trip and the frequency of trips during a brief period, the greater the cumulative risk. In the future, Medinco Health believes there is an opportunity to extend the CLOTBuster(r) beyond the aviation industry to other travel sectors like bus and train trips, and work offices where workers spend much of their time sitting.
