In September 2026, the David Omenukor Foundation introduced its 2026 breast and cervical cancer awareness and early detection campaign, which offers free mammogram screenings to underserved and vulnerable women in Mesquite, Texas. The foundation collaborated with Methodist Health System to organize this initiative to facilitate timely diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer. It helps women overcome the financial obstacles and enables them to access vital medical services.

This campaign involved a road talk for awareness, professional health discussions, and free screenings for the participants. According to Dr. Keyna Omenukor, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, this initiative intends to make medical services more accessible and affordable, especially for women from underserved groups. She said that this initiative will help to save lives, improve awareness, and provide access to preventive healthcare for women.

The Foundation was established in 2014 to honor her late husband, David Omenukor, who died of cancer. Dr. Keyna Omenukor said that the death of her husband inspired her to establish this institution, and she made a resolve to minimize the cases of late diagnosis. This Foundation has a significant presence in Nigeria and various other countries to provide screening facilities and awareness about cancer.

The next stage of the global campaign is expected to be in Owerri, Imo, which is where the headquarters of the Foundation is located. There are certain security issues in the rural areas of Imo State; still, they provide monetary help for medical treatments and healthcare bills. The Foundation also said that it is open to partnering with government agencies and NGOs to further expand its noble cause.

Impact on the Healthcare Industry

According to Precedence Research, the free breast cancer screening and awareness initiative will make healthcare more accessible to various segments of society. Cancer treatment remains expensive and unaffordable for a significant chunk of society who do cannot afford expensive medical treatments and healthcare insurance premiums. Cancer needs long-term, extensive chemotherapy treatment if diagnosed in later stages. This initiative has found significant success and will inspire other medical institutions to conduct similar programs to boost accessibility in their respective medical specialty.

Impact on the Cancer Diagnostics Market

The global cancer diagnostics market size is calculated at USD 170 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 184.96 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 378.44 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 8.33% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the free breast cancer screening and awareness initiative will encourage more and more women to seek medical consultation if they are experiencing certain symptoms. Cancer is a very stage-dependent disease. In its early stages, when the infected tissue has not spread much, it can be effectively treated to cure the disease. But in advanced stages, the affected tissue spreads across multiple areas, making it hard and expensive to fully remove or neutralize it. This initiative will provide poor women with the means to seek timely diagnosis and also provide awareness to society to get diagnosed if they are experiencing certain symptoms.

Impact on the Breast Cancer Market

The global breast cancer market size was estimated at USD 26.23 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 27.37 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 40.11 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 4.34% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, this initiative will help improve awareness of breast cancer among women and help them seek treatment. The advancements in the medical sector have enabled effective treatment of breast cancer in various stages. Increased awareness might lead to more women seeking consultations from healthcare professionals to get themselves diagnosed. It will also boost the preventive care ecosystem, as there are certain age groups of women that are more vulnerable to this cancer.
