Elaphe Propulsion Technologies, a pioneer in electric drivetrain technology, has formally released the breakthrough Sonic X in-wheel electric motor system. This technology is establishing a new benchmark in high-performance, electric, hybrid, and hybrid-electric cars. Stunning in its modern integration and compactness, the Sonic X system incorporates up to 300 kW of peak power per wheel and weighs 25 kilograms (55 lbs) per motor. Moreover, with standard 20- to 23-inch rims, this disruptive design perfectly fits into all spaces and weighs significantly less, yet serves very well in places where space, weight, and performance are all important determinants.

Through the use of the in-wheel motor technology, Elaphe says that the Sonic X platform is up to 40% lighter than a conventional dual-motor e-axle configuration. The effect is a much lighter car with increased power manufacturing capacity, improved handling dynamics, and ample interior or battery space. The Sonic X features a strong direct-drive system, making system integration even easier since it eliminates the need for distributing gear-type or mechanical transmissions.

The power density of the Sonic X is not the only feature that makes it a powerful device. The intelligence of this device is also a distinguished feature. It features built-in silicon carbide-based inverters in every unit and is available in single or dual configurations. Furthermore, this features proprietary high-speed vehicle control software embedded within the inverter hardware. This enables each wheel to act semi-autonomously, reacting in real-time to road conditions and driving behavior. The platform also has the capability to emulate a mechanical differential, providing a simplified layout in hybrid car applications where OEMs aim to integrate combustion engines and electric propulsion.

Automobile companies keen on adding the Sonic X to their future vehicle lineups are welcome to start receiving prototype samples as early as Q1 2026. The announcement by Elaphe arrives at a moment when the global auto industry is fast shifting to the era of electrification and software-first designs. The company appears poised to become one of the leaders in the upcoming maelstrom. Another demonstration of Elaphe's long-term vision to provide OEMs with tools that combine the efficiency of hardware and digital intelligence in a single, compact form factor is the launch of Sonic X.
