A major tech giant, Google, has updated its deep research feature, ‘Gemini’, which will enable users to fetch detailed data directly from Gmail, Drive, and conversations while building AI-based reports. This feature has already gone live for desktop users, and mobile access is expected to be enabled within a few days.

The AI assistant can gather complex data and conduct deep research on it. This data can be fetched from multiple sources. Until this date, the deep research feature has been pulling data from publicly accessible sources on the web. The data is used to draw from personal and organizational files, such as docs, sheets, slides, and chat logs, to create highly authentic, more context-oriented reports.

How Deep Research in Gemini Can Be Accessible?

Users can access this feature via the Tools menu in Gemini’s desktop interface. Once deep research is selected, the system prompts users to choose a source, such as Google Search, Drive, Chats, or Gmail. After that, this tool will build a multi-functional research plan and further synthesize selected data to create highly personalized summaries and reports.

Users can also use this tool to examine related internal communication and reference materials while connecting it to real-time online research. Users can also ask the AI for detailed results without manually reviewing files or emails. Thus, it can be easily used to convert authentic data into product research reports or market analysis notes, effortlessly combining public datasets and personal files.

Google presents this upgrade as a response to the increasing demand for highly personalized research assistance, particularly among professionals working across multiple documents, threads, and applications. For example, a team working on a new project could ask Gemini to provide brainstorming, analysis, and ideas related to it before developing its format, working style, and planning documents, so that it can combine all the data with external web searches to build a comparison report and market study.

This launch is primarily a response by Google to other tech leaders racing to integrate generative AI deeper into everyday use, highlighting a wide shift towards AI-regulated workplace tasks.
