GIT Coatings Unveils Graphene-Based Hull Coating to Enhance Ship Efficiency

In February 2026, GIT Coatings, a Canada-based company that specializes in marine coatings, unveiled its new product, XGIT-FORCE, a graphene-based hull coating that aims to enhance ship efficiency and fuel economy. This new product is marketed as a green alternative to traditional antifouling coatings, which contain biocides to prevent the growth of marine organisms.
The XGIT-FORCE hull coating features a smooth graphene coating that prevents biofouling. According to GIT Coatings, vessels coated with XGIT-FORCE can achieve up to 10% fuel savings while also increasing out-of-dock power by 6% compared to traditional hull coatings.
