RangeStar™: All-in-One Geothermal Well Intercept Service

Halliburton’s RangeStar Geothermal Well Spacing and Intercept Service combines short- and long-distance detection into a single, all-inclusive bottomhole assembly, redefining geothermal well intercepts and magnetic ranging. It improves accuracy, reduces tool complexity, and speeds up decision-making for safer, more precise well construction.

According to Precedence Research, the oil and gas upstream equipment market size accounted for USD 71.93 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 74.76 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 105.86 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 3.94% from 2026 to 2035 as demand grows for increasing adoption of digital transformation, advanced drilling and production technologies, and automation in exploration and production.

According to Jim Collins, vice president of Halliburton Sperry Drilling, this unified technology combines proven techniques into a single assembly to improve data quality, increase speed, and lower risk for operators.

This service integrates with Halliburton’s iStar® intelligent drilling and logging platform, LOGIX™ automation, and iCruise® intelligent rotary steerable system to provide high-quality data near the bit. It supports advanced workflows and accelerates the path toward fully automated geothermal operations.

How Halliburton Redefines Geothermal Ranging

Rising global demand for clean, reliable baseload power is driving significant investment in the geothermal sector, pushing operators toward increasingly complex, deep, and closed-loop systems. To meet the critical need for extreme precision in these high-temperature environments, this launched RangeStar™, a next-generation magnetic ranging solution. This technology reduces decision-making time from hours to minutes and supports detection distances by unlocking challenging new energy frontiers with greater speed, accuracy, and operational efficiency.

A recent report by Precedence Research highlights that the oil and gas upstream equipment market is benefiting from rising investments in digital technology, automation, and advanced drilling solutions to optimize production in challenging, mature fields.
