Honda Motor has announced a renewed investment in Helm.ai, a U.S.-based startup specializing in autonomous driving software, as part of its continued push into next-generation mobility solutions. While the investment amount has not been disclosed, the funding will go towards the development of end-to-end (E2E) autonomous driving (AD) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) technologies.

According to Mahito Shikama, Operating Executive and Head of Honda’s SDV Business Development Unit, the collaboration with Helm.ai is designed to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence that enhances the real-world application of Honda’s next-gen driver-assist systems.

“Partnering with Helm.ai allows us to fast-track the evolution of AI for AD/ADAS, delivering new mobility experiences that truly inspire our customers,” Shikama said.
Founded in November 2016, Helm.ai has been working alongside Honda since 2019 through Honda Xcelerator, the automaker’s global innovation initiative. Their partnership was strengthened in 2022, when Honda made its first investment in Helm.ai, advancing joint development by integrating the startup’s AI innovations with Honda’s engineering capabilities.

In July 2025, the two companies formalized a long-term strategic agreement to jointly develop E2E AI-based solutions for AD/ADAS. These systems will encompass everything from environmental perception and decision-making to vehicle control execution, aiming to deliver a complete autonomous driving stack.
This latest round of investment is expected to solidify their collaboration and further support the goals outlined in the agreement.

Honda also plans to leverage Helm.ai’s proprietary Deep Teaching approach and generative AI technologies to enhance the speed and effectiveness of its ADAS systems, which assist with tasks like steering, braking, and acceleration across a variety of driving conditions from highways to city streets.

Starting in 2027, Honda aims to introduce these next-generation ADAS capabilities across its future electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) lineups in North America and Japan.

Helm.ai CEO Vladislav Voroninski commented on the partnership, saying:

“Our collaboration with Honda combines their world-class engineering with our modular, E2E AI software and Deep Teaching technology. Together, we’re advancing highly reliable AD/ADAS solutions ready for mass production.”

Looking forward, Honda plans to expand the use of E2E AI and other advanced tech to build a proprietary suite of next-gen AD/ADAS features. These efforts align with the company’s global safety vision, including a bold goal of achieving zero traffic fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles.
