India is the first to leadless pacemaker implantation through a metallic prosthetic tricuspid valve, which also offers a safe option for cardiac patients. Dr Vanita Arora, at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, led a breakthrough procedure of showcasing the potential of innovative electrophysiology techniques.

Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals performs a complex leadless pacemaker implantation on 65 years old patient with a Metallic Prosthetic Tricuspid Valve. This procedure was conducted by Dr Vanita Arora, who posed challenges with a metallic prosthetic tricuspid valve, enhancing treatment with complicated cardiac care to ensure safety.

The patient went through a complicated and long medical journey surgical procedure that connects the pancreas to the jejunum, which includes the small intestine, in 1998. After that, he suffered from a fungal infection. Later in 2000, he underwent cardiac surgery and developed severe tricuspid regurgitation that led to symptoms of right-sided heart failure. In 2018, his condition required tricuspid valve replacement with a 31 mm metallic bileaflet mechanical prosthesis.

According to Toward Healthcare, the Leadless Pacemakers Market is projected to experience significant growth, with estimates suggesting the market size will increase from USD 1049.5 million in 2026 to approximately USD 1865.51 million by 2035, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.6% from 2026 to 2035. This market continues to lead with innovative medical technologies, ensuring improved patient outcomes and broadening treatment possibilities for complex conditions.

Dr Vanita Arora, Clinical Lead Cardiac Electrophysiology, stated that “Patients with mechanical tricuspid valves who require pacing present a unique challenge because conventional pacemaker leads cannot be passed across the valve. Leadless pacing technology allowed us to safely restore heart rhythm without repeat open-heart surgery, offering an important option for patients with complex surgical histories.”

About Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals

India's first JCI-accredited hospital is a joint venture between the Government of Delhi and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited. It is the third super-speciality tertiary care hospital set up by the Apollo Hospitals Group, commissioned in July 1996. Apollo Hospitals Delhi has the leading programme in kidney and liver transplant in the country.

Recently introduced the ZAP-X Gyroscopic Radiosurgery Platform, revolutionising brain tumour treatment across South Asia. It also brings the revolutionary RADIXACT - X9 that combines imaging and treatment delivery to precisely target a wide variety of Cancers.

A recent report by Toward Healthcare highlights that the Leadless Pacemakers Market is experiencing the concept of preventive health check programmes, and also opens the door for safer and less invasive treatment options for high-risk cardiac patients across India.
