North America Molded Pulp Packaging Market

Ravenwood and Troya Alimentos launch Mexico’s ‘first’ linerless tray for fresh produce.

Ravenwood Packaging Ltd has partnered with Troya Alimentos to launch Mexico’s first linerless, tray-based fresh produce packaging, replacing plastic nets and traditional labels with a more sustainable, retail-ready solution. Combining Ravenwood’s Nobac technology with TrayCycle fibre trays and labels from Reflex Labels, the initiative is rapidly scaling across Mexico, demonstrating how integrated design can reduce waste while enhancing shelf appeal and operational efficiency.

The initiative replaces plastic nets and traditional labels with sustainable, retail-ready packs, combining Ravenwood’s Nobac linerless applicator with Troya’s premium fruit and vegetable supply chain. Troya Alimentos has rolled out 20 SKUs, including avocados, tomatoes, citrus, mangos, and seasonal produce, all packaged in carton trays with linerless labels.

According to Towards Packaging, the North America Molded Pulp Packaging Market is projected to experience significant growth, with estimates suggesting the market size will increase from USD 1.71 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 3.03 billion by 2035, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.6% from 2026 to 2035. Growth is driven by the increasing demand for sustainable packaging solutions, with rising requirements for consumers in the food industry and the increasing reliability of molded pulp packaging, while the government is implementing bans and restrictions on non-recyclable packaging.

The Ravenwood Nobac system has streamlined labelling, handling up to 50 packs per minute for smaller trays and 20-25 for larger ones, while remaining easy for staff to operate. These labels are printed and approved by Reflex Labels in California, and the trays are TrayCycle fibre-based trays from Paper, Pulp & Film.

Combination of sustainability, practicality, and shelf appeal, the trays and linerless labels together form a fully integrated, eco-friendly packaging product.

It was launched in January 2026 across 30 stores, and the program is expanding so quickly that in its first month, it produced 50,000 packs, which grew to 75,000 in its second month and 200,000 across 150 stores in its third month.

Troya Alimentos reduces waste and aligns with Mexico’s evolving regulations on single-use plastics, replacing plastic nets and labels with tray-based packs and linerless labels. With the positive feedback from customer now they are curious about the new packaging, and retailers welcome the innovation, paving the way for wider adoption.

Director at Troya Group, Rodolfo Mezze, said Customers are curious about the concept – most of them have never seen it before.

A recent report by Towards Packaging highlights that the North America Molded Pulp Packaging Market is witnessing growth due to increasing adoption of molded pulp packaging due to its biodegradable and recyclable nature, with advanced manufacturing technology enhancing the aesthetic and functionality of the product.
