China Launches First AI Data Center Powered by 100% Green Electricity

An artificial intelligence-powered data centre that provides electricity power at a direct connection with 100 percent green electricity has officially launched in Zhongwei City, in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China. The data center has a dedicated green power supply of 100% green electricity from direct connection to renewable energy sources, setting a new standard in the world of digital infrastructure.

Advancing Sustainable AI Infrastructure

The AI data center will be Chinas inaugural scheme to be built to a wind-powered liquid-cooling standard, creating a link between renewable energy power production and cutting-edge cooling technology to ensure data center working efficiencies. The project helps to realize the national vision of moving data-heavy computing tasks to remote geographical areas.

“The system has an integrated high-efficiency liquid cooling system and a direct renewable power supply, which will help lower the electricity input in the building while contributing 100 percent green power supply to the building,” said Wang Fang, Deputy General Manager of the Computing Operations Company of China Telecom Ningxia Branch.

According to Precedence Research, the Green Data Center Market size was calculated at USD 85.08 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 101.28 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 445 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 17.99% from 2026 to 2035 due to the increase in the adoption of energy-efficient computing infrastructure.

Industry Impact and Outlook

Zhongwei is seeing a rise in investments in computing power, renewable energy, and talent, as it has a lot of wind and solar power resources, making it an emerging center for green computing. It's a project that's representative of a worldwide trend that has earned the buildings the status of “green” data centres around the globe, where sustainable energy, proper cooling, and efficient computing frequently come into play.

Enterprises around the world want to sustain and minimize carbon emissions, optimize their operations, and save energy costs, while the use of AI workloads is quickly growing. This new project in China has the potential to accelerate the adoption of AI infrastructure based on renewable energy and kick off innovations across the globe for the Green Data Center Market.
