Nouryon Introduces Ethylan EF-60 Additive for VOC-Free, Freezing-Resistant Paints
Nouryon Introduced Ethylan EF-60 at ECS
In July 2025, Nouryon introduced Ethylan EF-60, a next-generation additive that ensures low-temperature storage stability for VOC-free, water-borne latex paints. This multifunctional solution allows for the elimination of volatile organic compounds while maintaining high performance during freezing conditions.
VOC-Free Compliance
It facilitates the elimination of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), like replacing conventional stabilizers such as ethylene glycol (EG), propylene glycol, and PEG. Ethylan EF-60 is a versatile additive for waterborne latex, architectural paints, adhesives, inks, and textile coatings. It improves pigment compatibility and extends open time, allowing for longer application windows. It maintains paint performance and integrity when exposed to freezing conditions during transport or storage. It is APE and VOC-free, aligning with increasingly strict global environmental regulations.
According to Towards Chem&Materials, the Europe powder coatings market size accounted for USD 4.19 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 4.38 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 6.54 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 4.55% from 2026 to 2035 as consumer demand for durable finishes is increasing across the region.
Nouryon’s new Bermocoll EBM 3000 is a multifunctional additive for water-based multicolor paints. Designed for building facades, it helps these coatings more accurately mimic the look of stone or marble.
Environmental Regulations & Sustainability Accelerate Europe Powder Coatings Market
- Strict EU regulations against volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are fuelling a transition away from solvent-based coatings toward VOC-free, sustainable powder alternatives.
- The surge in electric vehicles (EVs) is another major driver fuelling market expansion, with a high demand for coating components such as chassis, battery packs, and wheels.
- Advances like smart coatings with IoT sensors, thin-film powder coatings, and enhanced application techniques are improving the overall performance and efficiency.
- Increasing urbanization and large-scale infrastructure projects require corrosion-resistant coatings for aluminium extrusions, facades, and window frames.
- The surge in production of passenger vehicles, particularly in Germany and France, propels demand for durable, high gloss finishes for bodies, wheels, and underbody components.
