Shyam Metallics Expands Aluminum Portfolio with New Flat-Rolled and Foil Manufacturing Hub in Odisha
Indian metal producer Shyam Metallics and Energy Limited is preparing to launch new aluminum flat-rolled products and foil manufacturing facilities in Sambalpur, Odisha. The project marks its entry into value- added aluminum products, strengthening downstream manufacturing capabilities and supporting growing industrial demand.

Shyam Metallics and Energy Limited has announced that its subsidiary, Smel Steel Structural Pvt Ltd., is nearing commercial commissioning of a major aluminum manufacturing facility in Sambalpur, Odisha. The plant will produce 60,000 tons per annum of aluminum flat-rolled products and 18,000 TPA of aluminum foil, catering to sectors that require precision-engineered and high-quality aluminum materials. The facility represents the companys strategic diversification beyond steel ferroalloys into higher-value aluminum products. The project is expected to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities while reducing reliance on imported aluminum products.
According to the Precedence Research, the global aluminum market size was valued at USD 190.98 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach approximately USD 347.29 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 6.16%.
Advancing the Aluminum Value Chain
The new facility reflects a broader trend among Indian metal manufacturers toward downstream integration and value-added production. Aluminium flat rolled products are widely used across packaging, transportation, construction, consumer goods, and renewable energy applications, while aluminium foil demand continues to grow in food packaging, pharmaceuticals, and emerging battery technologies. By entering these high-value segments, Shyam Metallics aims to capture higher-margin opportunities and strengthen its position across the aluminium value chain. The company also expects the facility to improve operating margins through a better product mix and enhanced manufacturing efficiencies.
Industry Impact and Market Outlook
The project is expected to support Indias broader manufacturing and infrastructure growth ambitions by increasing domestic availability of advanced aluminium products. Rising investments in electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, packaging solutions, and industrial manufacturing are driving strong demand for aluminium flat rolled and foil products. Industry analysts view this development as a positive step toward import substitution, regional job creation, and strengthening of domestic supply chains. With Indias aluminium consumption projected to grow steadily in the coming years, Shyam Metallics expansion positions the company to benefit from long-term demand growth while contributing to the development of the countrys downstream aluminium ecosystem.
