In a game-changing move that electrified the market, Oklo Inc. rocketed to a record-breaking 29% surge, reaching its highest share price ever. The spark? A jaw-dropping announcement: Oklo has been selected by the U.S. Air Force to power its Elelson Air Force Base in Alaska with its revolutionary Auror microreactor.

Oklo Air Force microreactor deal

A First-of-Its-Kind Energy Deal for National Defense

The defense logistics agency Energy confirmed a Notice of Intent to enter into a 30-year power purchase agreement, where Oklo will design, build, and operate a compact microreactor capable of delivering both electricity and steam. If finalized this will be first of its kind deployment for national defense, proof that small modular reactors are no longer science fiction. Not only is Oklo's new fast spectrum liquid metal reactor small, but it's built to last and produce power for a long time with little waste. It serves as a model for how America might power distant infrastructure in the future and is perfect for remote mission-critical bases like Eielson.

Wall Street Reacts: Confidence Surges

Shares exploded at $68.03, setting an all-time high. Major players took notice Wedbush Securities instantly raised Oklo’s price target to $75, hailing the company as a “clear leader” in next-gen nuclear solutions. But this isn't Oklo's first audacious move. Intending to bring the Aurora reactor online by late 2027 or early 2028, the company has already started the construction process at its Idaho location. Now that the Air Force is on board, that timeline seems not just feasible but inevitable.

Of course, not everything is approved yet. The intent of this deal is still ongoing. The NRC which denied Oklo's license in 2022 must grant regulatory approval. Concerns about possible dilution were raised when the company announced a $400 million stock offering to fund construction.

Momentum Builds: Idaho Construction Already Underway

Oklo has already broken ground on its Aurora demonstration site in Idaho, with the aim of bringing the system online by late 2027 or early 2028. With the Air Force now on board, that timeline is not only realistic, it’s accelerating.  The company has also opened up a new channel for government and civilian applications, including partnerships for powering data centers, industrial parks, and even remote civilian communities that remain off-grid.

A Turning Point for Nuclear Energy

Oklo’s rise marks a clear turning point for nuclear energy, once seen as complex, expensive, and slow to scale. Microreactors like Aurora are compact, safe, and scalable, making them ideal for decentralized and mission-critical applications.  As the U.S. Air Force leads the charge, this model could be replicated across a variety of sectors, from homeland security infrastructure and disaster response bases to space missions and international forward operating bases.
