OpenAI is set to launch a new AI-based Job platform with an Artificial Intelligence certification program, aiming to provide 10 million certifications by the end of 2030. These targets were discussed at the White House, highlighting the need for training due to growing concerns about unemployment or layoffs resulting from the entrance of AI into the global market. This initiative comes in the spotlight amid increasing fear among professionals due to the expansion of AI capabilities and its applications in nearly every major sector.
Therefore, along with job training, certification will also be offered by ChatGPT to its consumers/learners during the forecasted period. According to the company’s clarification, their long-term goal includes certifying nearly 10 million Americans with skills that will help them navigate a market where AI is expanding. This announcement was made in the white house task force meeting about AI and education, which was hosted by the First Lady of America, Melania Trump. Seniors from the tech industry, including Sundar Pichai and CEO Sam Altman, attended this meeting, showcasing the importance of AI and its role in the education sector.
The certification program will be developed in collaboration with Walmart, which is the largest private employer in the U.S. They confirmed that all 1.6 million of its American employees will be offered a free training session by ChatGPT. Walmart has already deployed AI in various functions, such as staff scheduling, stock management, and inventory ordering, and is expected to leverage further AI expertise for customer service and supply chain operations. However, for other organizations, this training may incur a cost for certification.
Technology executives emphasized that training and certification will help address the new changes resulting from the incorporation of AI, acknowledging that job disruptions will be inevitable but can be managed by providing the necessary education and skills. According to a recent study from Stanford University, the employment rate has decreased by 13% over the last three years among fresh graduates in fields highly exposed to AI, such as administrative work, accountancy, and software development. It highlights the significant impact of AI in the leading job sector and the challenges faced by early workers who want to build their careers.
