Perplexity Rolls Out Major AI Upgrades, Including Enhanced Comet Assistant and Patent Search Tool

AI search engine startup Perplexity has swiftly become one of the most talked-about innovators in the global technology ecosystem, capturing widespread attention for its dynamic growth, bold rivalries, and ongoing legal confrontations with industry giants. Renowned for its relentless momentum, the company consistently unveils groundbreaking AI-powered features and tools at an extraordinary pace, reinforcing its reputation as a trailblazer reshaping the future of intelligent search and information discovery.

Over the last two months, the Jeff Bezos-backed AI startup has continued to launch new capabilities and features for its search engine, aiming to offer an unparalleled search experience powered by high-precision data, including the ability to let users search for research patents with ease. In the most recent period, Perplexity leaped forward with its technological offerings, launching its “completely reimagined” Comet Assistant, an AI agent that runs at the center of its AI browser, Comet.

This launch redefined the search approach and the use of a browser. Unlike Google and Firefox's conventional tabbed interfaces, this new update in Perplexity browser lets users ask questions directly about the webpage they are surfing, with multiple other use cases. Earlier this year, the Agentic AI browser was made free to use for all Windows and Mac users.

The company said in its blog post, “Our internal tests show it performs 23% better than its predecessor. This is helpful when your task for the assistant requires them to take many steps correctly, and all in the right order.”

Perplexity upgraded their Comet Assistant with various features, such as working across multiple tabs at the same time, asking users for permission before running tasks directly in the Comet browser, and interacting with other complex websites.

The Comet Assistant can switch between tabs, making it easy for users to fill out a spreadsheet or complete various data-entry tasks. Also, the Comet Assistant will use the same user preferences throughout the entire process while saving data on users' choices.
