Procter and Gamble Launches Compact, Eco-Friendly Tide Detergent to Reduce Plastic Waste

Compact Detergent Designed for Sustainability

In February 2026, The  Procter & Gamble is experimenting with a different way to make and package detergent through its well-known brand, Tide in the current period.  Also, the company is working on a product that reduces the need for large plastic bottles commonly used for liquid laundry detergents. For many years, liquid detergent has been sold in bulky plastic containers filled with a mixture of water and cleaning ingredients. While convenient, these bottles create a large amount of plastic waste every year. Moreover, to address this issue, the company has developed a more concentrated detergent format called Tide Evo that removes much of the extra water.

Also, instead of traditional liquid detergent, the newly launched product comes in small, compact detergent pieces designed to dissolve during the wash cycle. These pieces contain concentrated cleaning ingredients and can be placed directly in the washing machine. Because the product is solid and lightweight, it requires far less packaging than standard liquid detergent bottles.

Eco-Friendly Packaging for Modern Laundry 

Furthermore, one of the main goals of this innovation is to reduce plastic use in recent years. The company is testing packaging made mainly from paper-based materials that can be recycled more easily than plastic containers. By changing both the product format and the packaging, the company hopes to significantly reduce the environmental impact associated with laundry products.
Another focus for the company is improving transportation efficiency nowadays. Since the detergent pieces are smaller and lighter than traditional bottles filled with liquid, they take up less space during shipping. This means more products can be transported at once, which may help lower fuel use and reduce carbon emissions during distribution.

According to Towards Chem&Materials, the plastic free detergent market size accounted for USD 12.85 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 13.82 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 26.53 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 7.52% from 2026 to 2035 as demand grows for eco-friendly materials in recent years.

The company is also trying to make laundry routines simpler for consumers. The compact detergent pieces are pre-measured, which helps prevent people from using too much detergent. Overusing detergent can sometimes lead to unnecessary water use during rinsing cycles.
