In August 2026, SES, which is a prominent space technologies company, was awarded the contract to supply multi-orbit inflight connectivity in the Airbus and Embraer fleet of LATAM Airlines. This contract boosted its status as one of the most prominent providers of multi-orbit connectivity solutions across the world. According to Mike DeMarco, SES President of Mobility, the passengers of LATAM Airlines would benefit from excellent inflight multi-orbit connectivity, which would be similar to the internet they have at home.

This collaboration shows that American airline companies are committed to providing modern connectivity features to their passengers. LATAM plans to equip more than 60 Airbus (A320NEO and A321XLR) and Embraer (E195-E2) with the connectivity solutions provided by SES. LATAM will be the most prominent airline in the region, which will be equipped with an electronically steered array (ESA) antenna by SES. This antenna is less than 7 centimeters in height and can provide great connectivity to the SES network.

SES uses satellite connections to provide consistent connectivity in multiple orbits. SES has provided connectivity in LATAM airlines for more than 10 years, which includes the 2Ku service, which was offered in more than 200 A320 airplanes in LATAM’s fleet. LATAM has the largest SES Wi-Fi-equipped fleet in the region with over 250 flights using SES’s connectivity solutions.

According to Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers at LATAM Airlines Group, the company is dedicated to providing excellent connectivity features to its passengers. He said that they want to provide their passengers with faster and more consistent connections by using SES’s inflight multi-orbit connectivity technologies. The company has the goal of providing reliable connectivity to passengers no matter the route, and thus set a benchmark for travel in Latin America.

Impact on the Information Communication Technology Industry

According to Precedence Research, the collaboration between LATAM Airlines and SES is expected to positively impact the information communication technology market. This is due to the fact that it directly boosts the adoption of advanced connection technologies in commercial flights.

LATAM is one of the most prominent airlines in Latin America, and thus it needs a large amount of electronic and digital equipment to adopt this technology at the fleet scale. This will lead to a boost in the manufacturing of the electronic equipment, as well as the raw materials required, which include semiconductors, lightweight yet durable metals, and synthetic materials that are reliable in adverse conditions.

Impact on the Wireless Connectivity Market

The global wireless connectivity market size was estimated at USD 118.32 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 134.77 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 412.84 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 13.31% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the partnership between LATAM Airlines and SES is expected to benefit the wireless connectivity market owing to the fact that LATAM is adopting advanced satellite connectivity solutions offered by SES. They are adopting it in a significant chunk of their total fleet.

This is a significant milestone for the commercialization of satellite connectivity, as it is being rolled out for connectivity on land as well. On the Earth's surface, satellite connection can be a boon in remote areas that do not have conventional connectivity infrastructure. Such a connection is reliable in adverse and remote places. The adoption of satellite connectivity for in-flight internet is expected to boost its adoption for land connectivity as well.

Impact on the Electronic Manufacturing Services

The global electronic manufacturing services market size is calculated at USD 617.90 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 661.34 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 1,201.16 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 6.87% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the partnership between LATAM Airlines and SES is expected to positively impact the electronic manufacturing services market. This is owing to the fact that such fleet-level adoption of advanced connectivity solutions needs a significant amount of electronics manufacturing.

It includes advanced reinforced synthetic materials for antennas, semiconductors, processors, and other digital equipment. This equipment needs to be of high-quality as it needs to reliably operate in harsh conditions. Airlines are usually ready to pay a premium price to ensure long-term consistent functioning of all electronic devices to provide a good experience to their customers.
