A leading tech giant in the market, Xiaomi, is gearing up to introduce humanoid robots for factory work, which will be a major leap, according to the company. The CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, believes the change is nearer than they expected. He stated that the rapid progress of artificial intelligence is a revolutionary change that is pushing conventional industrial practices and is expected to gradually take over industrial work by humanoid robots over the next few years. AI is not just a supporting tool; it sits at the core of how modern factories will operate and can be redesigned with the help of robotics and AI.

He further explained the company’s EV plant and how work has already begun. He stated that one of the most in-demand jobs at the plant is checking the large die-cast structures used in vehicles. Before, this work heavily relied on human interaction and judgment, which took longer and still left room for many overlooked mistakes. But Xiaomi has now launched X-ray systems, along with a vision-based AI model that performs the same tasks in a couple of seconds, with higher precision than humans and ten times faster and more accurate than human inspection. This shows a simple preview of what AI is now capable of doing and what an AI-driven workflow will look like in the upcoming years.

Future humanoid robots will be deployed across Xiaomi's production line within the next 5 years. And this is only the first step, according to Lei. He also spoke about China's broader role in the shift towards smart manufacturing, noting that cheap labor is no longer needed in the industrial sector.

This transition is important, as China wants to maintain its position in the global race to develop the most advanced production systems. Xiaomi is advancing toward its ambitious launch of humanoid robots, having already introduced its first, CyberOne, back in 2022 and steadily expanding its robotics work since then.
