An important step toward India's transition to technology-driven healthcare has been taken with the announcement by AIIMS Jammu of plans to establish a Global Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. Thousands of patients are currently treated by the institute every day, including many emergency and referral cases from various states. This sizeable and varied patient population produces useful clinical data that can be safely and ethically used to create reliable AI models. As super specialty services like cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, oncology, and advanced surgical disciplines grow, AI applications can be integrated across departments to enhance clinical outcomes and workflow efficiency.
The AI center is a component of AIIMS Jammu's larger expansion plan, which also calls for the establishment of several Centers of Excellence in fields like robotics, telemedicine, oncology, trauma care, and predictive medicine. There are also ongoing infrastructure improvements, including state-of-the-art labs, a catheterization lab, a contemporary blood center, and rural health units. For patients from Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding areas in particular, these programs seek to close regional healthcare gaps and offer cutting-edge treatment options closer to home.
Furthermore, AIIMS Jammu has already shown that it is committed to innovation with facilities like its Center for Advanced Genomics and Precision Medicine, which facilitates individualized treatment plans based on genetic profiling.
