Allego N.V., a leading name in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has become the first operator in Europe to roll out a cross-network Plug & Charge system based on the industry-standard OCPP 2.0.1 protocol. Leading electric vehicle charging company Allego N.V. is the first to provide the Plug & Charge facility across multiple charging networks using OCPP 2.0.1 as the standard.
Possessing this technology, based on ISO 15118 authentication, means that electric cars don’t need to use apps or cards or to be manually signed in. Through a single step, the vehicle and charging station trade encrypted details that make the process more secure and fully automatic for the driver. This truly groundbreaking development can be found on Allego’s 5,000+ charge points in Europe due to the hard work of Alpitronic, Hubject, and Ford.
With Plug & Charge, EV drivers are assured of using different charging stations across Europe, as Plug & Charge makes the charging process the same. Since EVs are being used more and more, Allego’s improved technology allows users simple access and also the option to update remotely and work with additional types of vehicles as they become available. Furthermore, due to this, the vehicle plays the leading role, so the EV tells the charger its important information through its digital credentials. Being built in collaboration with industry giants Alpitronic, Hubject, and Ford, it offers support in multiple regions and a smooth launch everywhere.
Jean Gadrat, Chief Marketing Officer at Allego
“Our mission is to make EV charging at Allego the most intuitive. By removing digital friction points, apps, and cards, we give drivers the confidence to travel further and charge more conveniently. Whether in the city, on the highway, or abroad, Plug & Charge delivers the same secure, one-step charging experience.”
Manuel Trotta, Head of Mobility Solutions, Allego
“This results in future-proof technology. As new vehicle models and charging technologies emerge, OCPP 2.0.1 supports remote firmware updates, new features, and secure certificate management, ensuring your car always ‘speaks the same language’ as the charger.”
