In March 2026, Amcor, a leading global entity in the development and production of sustainable packaging solutions, has entered into a partnership with De Ceuster Meststoffen NV (DCM), based in Belgium, to launch an innovative, recycle-ready mono-material polyethylene (PE) film tailored for its fertilizer portfolio in Europe. This advancement replaces DCM's previous multi-material packaging structure, which was incompatible with current recycling systems.

The newly designed film utilizes a composition of machine-direction oriented polyethylene (MDO PE) along with a functional sealant layer. The MDO configuration provides robust protection against gas and moisture ingress, while ensuring high tensile strength and substantial resistance to tearing and puncturing. Furthermore, the secure seal of the packaging minimizes outer-layer deformation, and the film's rigidity contributes to the stability of smaller packs on retail shelves. A high-gloss finish is incorporated to enhance brand visibility and consumer appeal at points of sale.

Sofie Peeters, Communication Manager at DCM, remarked, "Sustainability has remained a fundamental pillar of DCM's corporate philosophy since the company's establishment in 1976. This latest packaging innovation represents a further advancement in delivering high-quality fertilizer products while also progressing our environmental objectives."

Neal Geryl, Sales Director at Amcor, emphasized, "The integration of a recycle-ready mono-material construction with post-consumer recycled content exemplifies Amcor's dedication to promoting circular packaging solutions. This offering enables brands to advance their sustainability initiatives while ensuring product protection and maintaining shelf appeal, thereby assisting customers across Europe in compliance with forthcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation requirements."

Impact on the Sustainable Packaging Market

The global sustainable packaging market size was calculated at USD 126.50 billion in 2025 and is predicted to reach around USD 254.95 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 7.26% from 2026 to 2035.

According to precedence research, the proportion of circular economy models used by packaging companies will continuously increase. Such models mean that companies will start using recyclable, compostable, and reusable materials and will be able to do so thanks to the advancement and enhancement of collection systems and recycling infrastructure. Innovative materials can include biodegradable plastics, compostable materials, and recycled materials. These materials are designed to break down naturally in the environment and have a lower impact on the environment than traditional packaging materials.

This new Launch by Amcor and DCM will have a positive impact on the market. The new packages also incorporate 35% post-consumer recycled content and are available in sizes ranging from 650 grams to 7 kilograms, providing a high-performance, recycle-ready packaging solution while supporting DCM’s broader sustainability strategy. Life cycle assessment data shows that the shift to film with 35% PCR content delivers a 17% reduction in carbon footprint, supporting the brand’s carbon reduction targets and circular economy goals.

Impact on the Agricultural Packaging Market

The global agricultural packaging market size is calculated at USD 8.84 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 9.35 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 15.48 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 5.76% from 2026 to 2035.

According to precedence research, many sustainable packaging trends are driven by environmental regulations and the desire to use environmentally friendly agricultural supply chain packaging. Europe is expected to capture a significant position in the agricultural packaging market. They have a strong emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly packaging solutions. The region has implemented strict regulations and policies regarding packaging waste and recycling. There is a growing demand for recyclable and biodegradable packaging materials to reduce environmental impact. Packaging companies in Europe are actively investing in sustainable packaging innovations
A new recycle-ready packaging film is designed to cut carbon emissions and improve recyclability across DCM’s fertilizer portfolio in Europe. The company said the carbon reduction estimate is based on a cradle-to-gate comparison between 110-micron virgin mono-PE film and a 110-micron mono-PE film containing 35% PCR, calculated using Amcor’s ASSET lifecycle assessment model certified by the Carbon Trust.
