In August 2026, FirstNet and AT&T unveiled a 5G standalone (5G SA) network that has been developed specifically to ensure public safety. This is one of the most recent innovations in the American Public Safety Network. This network has been developed after taking feedback directly from public safety and is intended to cater to first responders’ specialized operational and technical requirements.

The 5G SA network has been kept separate from AT&T’s commercial network to provide public safety with excellent security, reliability, and process control. This launch provides a basis for future technologies that will assist to enhance network performance for various applications such as wearable cameras, important mission communication, and live video.

The specialized FirstNet network acts as the brain of this 5G ecosystem that keeps public safety traffic separate from commercial traffic. It has been developed to have excellent reliability by having multiple core sites in various locations to achieve consistent performance. The recent enhancements in the FirstNet core allow this network to achieve excellent upload speeds and decreased response time.

This 5G SA network provides higher public safety standards than those provided by commercial networks. It can be accessed only via a FirstNet SIM, which ensures subscriber data privacy from cyberattacks. The network is monitored round-the-clock by a specialized security center that helps to detect and mitigate potential cyberthreats.

According to Scott Agnew, the President of FirstNet, first responders need a dedicated network for their specialized communication needs, which are not fulfilled by regular commercial networks. He said that this launch is vital to ensure proper functioning of America’s public safety network and that the smooth operations of first responders directly relate to a safer society.

Impact on the Information Communication Technology Industry

According to Precedence Research, the launch of the 5G standalone network is expected to positively impact the information communication technology industry due to the fact that it provides robust safety for critical operations. This network has higher security and privacy standards than regular commercial communication networks.

This development will encourage various sectors which required enhanced security to adopt such secure standalone networks. FirstNet also provides round-the-clock comprehensive threat monitoring services, and the network has been imparted excellent reliability to ensure smooth operations under varying loads.

Impact on the Telecommunication Market

The global telecommunication market size is estimated at USD 2.46 trillion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 2.61 trillion in 2026 to approximately USD 4.42 trillion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 6.03% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the introduction of the 5G standalone network is expected to benefit the telecommunications market as it promotes the adoption of advanced communication technologies in critical missions. Many conventional, highly secretive operations are getting digitized, and they need a secure and private network to achieve their objectives. Such adoptions significantly increase the revenue for telecom providers as the critical mission companies are willing to pay a premium price to ensure robust privacy of operations and data.

Impact on the Network Monitoring Market

The global network monitoring market size was calculated at USD 4.36 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 4.78 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 11.00 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 9.70% from 2026 to 2035.

According to Precedence Research, the launch of the 5G standalone network is expected to positively impact the network monitoring market. This is owing to the fact that digitized critical operations are at a significant risk of cyberattacks, which can lead to breaches of classified technologies and data. Such situations can compromise national and organizational security. This compels critical operations companies to adopt real-time monitoring services to quickly detect and mitigate any potential cyberthreats. This can help them avoid significant financial losses and also maintain the reputation of their organization.
