Cleanroom and Containment Facilities (CCF) has completed the delivery of a novel NHS aseptic pharmacy unit (APU) in Portsmouth, which serves as a specialist biopharmaceutical manufacturing infrastructure for health services.

The turnkey solutions have been taken from concept to a compliant, operational environment and are now entering the end stages of commissioning, authentication and handover.

Acting as intended and build contractor, CCF was accountable for the delivery of the complete services, including the cleanroom and support region, architectural works, mechanical and electrical solution, HVAC systems, process integration, an Environmental Monitoring System (EMS), and validation support.

The APU has been intended to support aseptic compounding operations, involving the preparation of cytotoxic and biological therapeutics.

Industrialized in accordance with EU GMP Annex 1 requirements, the services have also been configured to support future Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) licensing and long-term operational compliance.

A significant element of the project was the structured part between CCF and independent validation consultant CCTech.

A consumer requirements specification established at the outset was carried through the design qualification, installation qualification, and operational qualification steps, which offered a compliance outline that informed both design development and site supply.

According to Towards Healthcare, the cleanroom technologies market is projected to experience significant growth, with estimates suggesting the market size will increase from USD 10.12 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 18.35 billion by 2035. Estimated to grow at a CAGR of 6.84% starting from 2026 to 2035. Cleanroom healthcare device industrial plays a central role in reducing contamination challenges, improving product quality, and supporting regulatory compliance. Far from being limited to a particular subset of tools, cleanrooms offer versatile, high-value manufacturing environments that advantage a broad range of manufacturing processes. With significant advantages of cleanroom production, manufacturers can make informed decisions related to whether cleanrooms are essential for their particular projects. In a sector where accuracy, safety, and compliance are non-negotiable, cleanroom manufacturing continues to stand as a proven and efficient tool for risk reduction and quality assurance. Cleanroom facilities use advanced filtration technology, environmental monitoring, and strict operational protocols to ensure that the manufacturing process remains free of contamination challenges that could compromise product quality or consumer safety.

Cleanroom Technologies Market Size 2025 to 2035

The organization said the facility has been engineered to operate as a fully integrated technology rather than a collection of particular packages.

The project included a risk-based HVAC and pressure cascade strategies, incorporation of specialist isolator technology in the cleanroom environment, corresponding EMS and building management system (BMS) controls to help monitoring and data integrity, GMP-aligned layouts and zoning, and a commissioning programme sequenced to support validation activities.

CCF said it will continue to support the project via the remaining commissioning, validation and handover phases before the facility becomes entirely operational.

A recent report by Towards Healthcare highlights that the cleanroom technologies market is growing, as cleanrooms make technological and medical invention possible. Investigators need to control each variable in a trial, and the atmosphere in which the work is carried out is one of the largest. A controlled space lets an organization run experimental processes and report its findings with self-assurance; significantly, the surroundings did not skew the result. That consistency is why cleanrooms sit at the heart of healthcare, biotechnology, and advanced electronics studies. By offering controlled environments, cleanrooms support preventing infections, confirm the safety of medications and medical tools, and support advanced research and development. As medical science develops, the role of cleanrooms in hospitals and healthcare services is likely to grow, underscoring their significance in the important mission of saving lives and enhancing health outcomes.
