Sustainable Intelligence: Indonesia’s Largest Green Loan to Fuel Digital Edge AI Campus

Previously, Digital Edge announced that the campus will be built in several phases, with the first phase, including three buildings, which are expected to start operations in Q4 2026, Q1 2027, and Q2 2027, respectively. The data center developer has mentioned that the campus is specifically tailored for AI and data-heavy applications.

According to Precedence Research, the Targeted Data Center Market size accounted for USD 204.13 billion in 2025 and is predicted to increase from USD 231.85 billion in 2026 to approximately USD 729.33 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 13.58% from 2026 to 2035 as demand grows for Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud migration, and sustainability requirements.

Digital Edge claims that this funding is the largest green data center loan ever recorded in Indonesia and is part of the company’s Green Financing Framework, which aims for carbon neutrality by 2030. Digital Edge has highlighted that the campus is designed to achieve an annualized power usage effectiveness of 1.25, use recycled water systems, and integrate renewable energy sources.

A New Peak: Digital Edge’s Record-Breaking Green Loan for Indonesian AI Development

The company plans to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the campus. “By providing businesses with high-performance, AI-ready digital infrastructure and fostering innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact, this financing underscores Digital Edge’s leadership in sustainable digital infrastructure,” said Jonathan Walbridge, CFO of Digital Edge. “This achievement has been made possible through the strong support of both existing and new lending partners who share our commitment to responsible growth.”

The financing was led by BNP Paribas, Clifford Capital, Crédit Agricole, DBS, Mizuho, OCBC, and PT Bank Central Asia, with SMBC acting as the mandated lead arrangers. Crédit Agricole, DBS, and PT Bank Central Asia also served as green facility coordinators.

Digital Edge was founded by the private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, located in New York, in August 2020. The data center developer entered the Indonesian market in 2021 by purchasing a majority share in Indonet. At present, the developer runs and is building around 25 data centers, with more than 1.1 GW of IT power spread across Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

A recent report by Precedence Research highlights that the Targeted Data Center Market is benefiting from the need for higher power density, faster processing speeds, and specialized infrastructure for AI training and inference.
