A California-based robotics startup-FieldAI has secured a whopping amount of $405 million across various previously unknown rounds to establish foundational embodied Artificial Intelligence models, that are nothing but robot brains. It will be designed in a way to help diverse sectors from humanoids to self-driving cars to navigate new environments that are unknown before. According to the sources of company, the most recent round has secured $314 million in august which was backed by Bezos Expeditions, Prysm and Temasek. FieldAI is further co-supported by other companies like Khosla Ventures, Intel Capital and Canaan Partners.
Embodied AI will not be similar to an existing AI model that generates video, texts, images based on huge datasets, but it will guide and control physical robots working in the real-world environments. FieldAI builds ‘Field Foundation Models that can be applicable for general purpose embodied AI models rooted in physics. They offer the ability to robots to learn and adapt quickly in new environments while navigating risks factors around them for seamless function.
A founder and CEO of FieldAI Ali Agha mentioned, “The mission is to build a single robot brain that can generalize across different robot types and a diverse set of environments; to get there, you need to manage risk and safety as you go to these new environments. And that has been a fundamental gap in robotics, that traditional models and traditional approaches were never designed to manage that risk and safety.”
Agha is relentlessly working to build this idea. He has been looking to develop such a system since decades while working across different places including from NASA to Massachusetts Institiute of technology (MIT). He decided to introduce FieldAI when he came along a technological breakthrough that offered one robot brain to work for various types of robots performing similar and binary actions.
Feild AI launched in 2023, since then has secured various contracts across different sectors such as construction, energy and urban delivery. However, the company does not wish to disclose consumer's name. This funding will support research and development and excelling company’s production to deploy its models to various customers and strengthen their roots globally.
