Medtronic, a worldwide leader in medical technologies, has launched the smallest leadless Minic AV2 and Micra VR2 pacemakers in the world. It is a revolutionary step in curing people with bradycardia- slow-paced rhythms in Flow of the Heart. Through this introduction, Medtronic strives to provide an even less invasive, efficient, and effective solution to cardiac rhythm management. They also provide an even longer duration of operation to the healthcare sector and an affirmation of their attitude to innovation-driven Healthcare to suit the emerging India with changing cardiac requirements.

In contrast to the classical pacemakers that need leads and a surgical pocket in the chest. Micra AV2 and VR2 are fully self-contained and placed directly into the heart via a minimally invasive technique via the femoral vein. This also eliminates the risk of lead-associated complications like the risk of fractures or infections and drastically cuts the period of recovery of the patients. Another available technology in the AV2 model is the advanced atrioventricular (AV) synchrony technology. This is based on an accelerometer system designed to correspond pacing to a patient natural heartbeat, even during movements, and it is a massive improvement with regard to previous models.

The simplified implantation process is the next success story of a patient-centered design. Other than the negligible time of implantation, the procedure is also less invasive and less traumatic than typical surgery since it is administered via a catheter in the leg and inserted straight into the heart tissue. Besides, it makes patients feel better physically and psychologically because there is no surgical scar in the chest area, and there is no apparent bulge under the skin. This design is especially useful in India where the rural areas or underserved areas might not allow access to nursing services after surgery.

Chandrashekhar Jaiman, Director of Cardiovascular at Medtronic India, highlighted the broader significance of the launch, stating

“At Medtronic, our mission is to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. With the launch of the Micra AV2 and VR2 in India, we are proud to advance that mission by redefining what’s possible in cardiac care. These next-generation leadless pacemakers represent a significant leap forward—combining miniaturization with intelligent pacing technology to deliver a superior experience for both patients and clinicians. This innovation is especially meaningful in India, where the growing burden of cardiovascular disease calls for scalable, accessible, and clinically advanced solutions.”
