A leading AI MODEL provider, Midjourney, has launched an image-to-video converter allowing users to change their uploaded picture or the AI-generated image offered by the Company’s portfolio, which can be transformed into short 5-second video content. Midjourney is a popular Artificial Intelligence startup that is well known for its image generation with extra real effects and magic touch and marked a bold leap into the AI video generation.
Recently, the company launched V1 as an AI video model. It was a long-awaited video model, offering users AI-created short clips as per their prompt. This launch makes Midjourney a tough competitor with other highly recognized AI companies like Runway, OpenAI, Adobe, and Google. Moreover, it's not just about videos; Midjourney is also looking for another innovative idea. CEO David Holz mentioned in a blog post about their ambitious plan: "AI model V1 is just the next stepping stone towards real-time open-world simulations.” The company also showcased its plan to expand into 3D renderings and real-time generative models down the line.
Midjourney is one of the most appealing tools for artists and designers. The company has now taken a slightly different turn for video generation and is creating a playground for people who want to build more dream-like videos. On the other hand, many of its competitors, like SORA by OpenAI, Firefly by Adobe, and Google’s tool VEO3, have been built with the intent of offering a platform for commercial filmmakers and studios with AI tools that can be highly controllable.
However, the video generation is comparatively more costly than its previous models, as it consumes 8 times more credits than the current image tools of Midjourney. However, the company claimed to reduce its costs and restructure its plans later. The V1 currently offers a higher level of video control with “AUTO” mode and Manual mode too. So, the consumers can select whichever mode they need to use with the help of prompts. The clips can be extended to 21 seconds from the default 5-second mode. The launch of V1 highlighted Midjourney's intent to offer aesthetic types of videos instead of hyperrealistic ones, and the initial reactions of the users have been positive and considerable so far.
